First Comes Marriage by Huda Al-Marashi

Huda is an Iraqi-American girl living in California. Her family is very conservative. When she is 6, she meets the boy, Hadi, the 2 families decide she should marry. What follows is her story of trying to follow her culture while wishing for a big splashy American love story.

I have to say, Huda does not come off as completely likeable for much of the book. She blames Hadi for many of the things making her unhappy in life. And it takes her a long time to realize what a good husband he is and what it takes to make a marriage work. It was an interesting look at a unique slice of life in America.
