One Good Turn by Kate Atkinson

I love Kate Atkinson's Jackson Brodie series. She starts with a bunch of plot threads that seem unrelated but manages to tie them all together by the end of the story. I thought I had read all the books in the series but seem to have missed this one somehow. But I was delighted to come across it
accidentally.

One Good Turn starts with a case of road rage. One driver is ready to kill the other driver with a baseball bat when kind-of-nerdy mystery writer Martin throws his briefcase at the bat-wielder and stops the attack. That one good turn kind of turns into a nightmare for Martin--and for retired cop Jackson Brodie who also witnessed the crime and was getting ready to jump in himself. We have money laundering, infidelity, an unfunny comedian, a dead Russian girl, a live Russian girl who is the spitting image of the dead Russian girl, even beloved pets dying. And it all happens during Festival Week in Edinburgh.

On the domestic front, Jackson's romance with flighty actress Julia has hit a rough patch and he seems kind of taken with single mom/cop Louise--for whom the attraction is mutual.I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of the newest Jackson Brodie book at my library.
