Suspicion by Joseph Finder

As we're heading into summer, it's always good to have a few beach books lined up. To that end, I recommend Suspicion by Joseph Finder. It's quite the page-turner.

Danny, single father to Abby, is struggling financially and thinks he will have to pull her out of the private school she loves. Then out of the blue, Danny gets an offer of money from Gavin, the father of Abby's new best friend, Jenna. Danny really doesn't want to be beholden to Gavin--a guy he hardly knows. But Abby is still dealing with her mother's death and he doesn't want her to have to switch schools too, so he reluctantly agrees to a loan. However, as soon as he deposits the money, 2 DEA agents come calling and accuse him of being involved with a Mexican drug cartel--which they also accuse Gavin of. They say the only way Danny can stay out of prison is to spy on Gavin for them. And so begins Danny's nightmare.

My only quibble with this book is that Gavin seems to be willing to start up a friendship with Danny awfully quickly, which seemed a little implausible, especially if he really was working for a Mexican cartel (which you'd think would make him suspicious of every newcomer in his life--especially one who is as inept a spy as Danny is.) But other than that, it was a good story with some interesting twists.
