Bridgerton

This is neither a book (though it's based on one) nor a movie, but I'll jot about Bridgerton anyway--which started on Netflix on Christmas. It's sort of like Jane Austen with a modern spin--and way more sex. The heroine is Daphne Bridgerton, who is attending all the high society balls and festivities in search of a husband in Regency England. But it's not just any husband that our girl Daphne is looking for. She wants a love match, like her parents had. Enter the dashing and wealthy Simon, who has sworn he will never marry and never have children. Daphne is trying to avoid marriage to the guy her brother picked for her and Simon is trying to avoid everyone fixing him up with eligible women. So they make a deal to pretend to be in love--and you can see where this is going.

There are a lot of other subplots and a lot of characters to keep track of--and I swear all those Bridgerton brothers look so much alike they could be real brothers. As with Hamilton, many of the main characters are played by Black actors (including the Queen of England) and it just is what it is. Which is kind of refreshing.

I watched 5 straight episodes of this in a row before deciding I'd better get up and start moving before all my muscles started atrophying. So yes, it is kind of addictive. And I hear they're already planning for season 2.
