Early Morning Riser by Katherine Heiny

This sounded like it might be a laugh-out-loud book when I read the review. And while it does have some funny scenes and witty lines, there are also some sad parts. But it was a good story in an interesting location--Boyne City, Michigan.

Jane is a second grade teacher who is new to Boyne City. She falls for woodworker Duncan, who, she later finds out, has pretty much slept with every available woman in the greater Boyne City area. He has no interest in marriage and kids, which she does, so she moves on to a nice guy named Luke. Then something sad and unexpected happens, which changes the trajectory of Jane's life.

Jane was a likeable heroine--not perfect but with a kind heart--and more patience than I would have had  in some of the situations she finds herself in.
