Golden Girl by Elin Hilderbrand

Vivi is a successful author, divorced mother of 3 semi-grown children, living the good life on Nantucket when she's the victim of a hit and run. Much of the story takes place with her up in the waiting room for heaven trying to keep an eye on her kids, her ex- and the younger woman he left her for, and her best friend. We the readers are also trying to figure out who hit her and left her in the road. Her son's best friend, Cruz, is the one who found her and many people think he did it, but he swears he didn't--and the chief of police indeed thinks someone is trying to frame him. (I actually figured out who was driving pretty early into the story, but that didn't lessen my enjoyment of the story.) The angel, Martha, assigned to help transition Vivi into heaven, tells her she has 3 nudges that she can use to help someone on earth before the summer is over and Vivi moves to heaven. While she's deciding how to use them, and worrying about her kids, she thinks back on her life and how she ended up as a writer living on Nantucket from her humble beginnings in Ohio and about some of the choices she made. Elin H. knows how to tell a good story--and once again, I really wish I could spend a week on Nantucket some summer. It sounds so delightful in all of her books.
