The Last Thing He Told Me

Let me just say I started reading this book after dinner last night and stayed up way too late to finish it. So quite the page-turner.

Hannah is married to Owen, father of teenage Bailey. They live on a houseboat near Sausalito. One day, Hannah opens the door to a teenage girl she doesn't know who hands her a note from Owen saying: Protect Her. Then she goes to pick up Bailey from school, who gets in the car with a duffel bag full of cash that her father had stashed in her school locker. And no one can get ahold of Owen.

Bailey doesn't have much use for her stepmother but realizes that Hannah is all she has, so the two join forces to figure out what happened to Owen--and to stay one step ahead of the US Marshals and FBI, who are convinced that Hannah knows where Owen is. Couldn't put it down.

As a side note, I also enjoyed the author's earlier Eight Hundred Grapes.
