The Wild Silence by Raynor Winn

I read the very memorable Salt Path a while back and was pleased to discover that the author had written a sort of prequel/sequel. In the Salt Path (a true story), middle-age couple Raynor and Moth Winn lose their house due to a duplicitous "friend" and find out that Moth has a terminal neurodegenerative disease. Rather than wallowing, they set off to walk the rugged Salt Path, a 630-mile trail around Great Britain.

In the Wild Silence, we learn more about how Ray and Moth met and fell in love. And we discover how they once again go back to the land when Moth's health starts taking a turn for the worse. This couple is truly inspirational. And the descriptions of nature found on these pages are so vivid. You feel like you're struggling through a field of volcanic ash or wading through a frigid river with them.
