Joan is Okay by Weike Wang

Joan is an ICU doctor in NYC. Her parents came from China to live the American dream, then moved back to China once their kids--Joan and Fang--were successful. Joan lives for work. She has no romantic interest, no hobbies, no time for fun, and she's okay with that. Fang keeps pressuring Joan to get married and move to Connecticut to be near his family. Her neighbor Marc keeps pushing her to be more social. Her boss keeps pushing her to take time off. But Joan likes her life the way it is.

This is a fascinating look at culture and society and one woman's right to live her life the way she wants to. It's told with sharp insight and a gentle sense of humor.
