Version Zero by David Yoon

Max works for a Facebook-like company called Wren and seems to be on the pathway to a brilliant career. Then he discovers that Wren is collecting all kinds of sensitive information from its users and planning to use it for nefarious purposes. When he tries to mention his concerns, he gets fired. He decides he has to let Wren's users know what the company is up to and his best friend (and secret crush) Akiko, who also works for Wren, decides to help. Then a reclusive computer mogul (with the colorful name of Pilot Markham) gets involved and Max's plans to fix the evils of the Internet go quickly off the rails.

It's a thought-provoking story about how dependent we have become on the Internet--and how much personal information everyone is sharing with the big-tech companies.
