Overboard by Sara Paretsky

 It was good to catch up with feisty PI Vic Warshawski. When our story starts, she's out running with her dogs when she comes across a badly injured teenage girl. She gets the girl to the hospital, but the girl mysteriously disappears after being interviewed by a man who says he's a cop but seems unfamiliar to the other cops in the neighborhood. Soon several people, including a truly abusive cop, are after Vic because they're convinced the young girl gave Vic something that they all want. She has no idea what they're all looking for or why, but she eventually figures out several diabolical schemes and the roles of most of the major players.
