The September Society by Charles Finch

This is another in the excellent Charles Lenox series of Victorian mysteries, which I've read totally out of order. Indeed this is where we find out how Charles and Jane end up together, and how Charles runs for Parliament. Which I had been wondering about.

The story starts in India then fast forwards to several years later in England, where a young student at Oxford disappears and Charles in hired to find him. Charles eventually realizes the ties to what happened in India years earlier and resolves several mysteries. I find this a charming series with likeable characters--Charles, Jane, Graham, Thomas, Inspector Jenkins. And look forward to unearthing other volumes in the series that I have missed.
