The Lies I Tell by Julie Clark

Lies alternates between 2 main characters, Meg (a con artist) and Kat (a reporter) whose lives intersect. Kat hears about Meg and wants to write a book about her, so she goes undercover and befriends Meg. Kat's boyfriend, Scott, is a cop with a gambling problem. He keeps warning Kat not to get close to Meg because her life will suffer, but Kat forges ahead  and actually gets to like Meg. Then Kat hears from a bank that she owes thousands of dollars on a credit card she never opened. Has Meg decided to run a con on her? Or has Scott gone back to gambling? The two of them point the finger at each other and Kat doesn't know whom to trust or believe.

It's an interesting character study focusing on the power men usually have over women and how some women will fight back. Good end-of-summer read.
