Racing the Light by Robert Crais

Racing the Light is the latest in the compelling Elvis Cole/Joe Pike series. Elvis (a PI in LA with a good heart and a wicked sense of humor) is hired to find Josh,  a young podcaster who has disappeared. His mother is a retired professor but seems to have a suspiciously large amount of security around her at all times, which makes Elvis wonder what her story really is. It turns out Josh is chasing down a hot tip left to him by his friend Skylar, a call girl and artist. She stumbled upon some major dirt while with a client and wants Josh to get the story out. Then Skylar disappears too. Elvis calls his best friend Joe Pike and their techno genius pal, Jon, for some backup. Josh doesn't realize how dangerous his adversaries are and Elvis is desperately trying to keep him (and his best friend, Ryan) safe.

At the same time, Elvis is surprised by a visit from his long-time love, Lucy, and her son, Ben. Lucy had told Elvis his life was too dangerous so she cooled off the romance, moved back to Louisiana, and said they could just be friends. But now it seems like she might have had a change of heart. Can't wait to see what happens next.

Another excellent addition to the Elvis/Joe saga.
