Trap by Robert Tanenbaum

This is part of the Butch Karp and Marlene series set in NYC. Butch is the DA and Marlene is an activist/lawyer (though she doesn't play a big part in this book). A Jewish woman who survived WW2 by pretending to be Catholic has written a book about her experiences during the war and her confusion about her identity. After a book signing event, a car bomb injures her and 2 of her friends. The obvious suspect is a neo Nazi who was protesting outside the event. But Butch isn't so sure he's responsible. And he's not sure if the fact that the author was Jewish is the reason for the car bomb--or the fact that she was a big proponent of charter schools, who angered the public teachers union. Action-packed story for the first half, followed by a good courtroom drama for the second half.
