Ms Demeanor by Elinor Lipman

 Jane and Jacklyn are identical twins. Jane is a lawyer and Jac is a dermatologist. Jane is enjoying a summery evening on the terrace of her building with a coworker when he decides to take his clothes off. She figures it's dark and they're alone so why not? Unfortunately for her, the old lady across the street has her binoculars trained on them and she calls the cops. Jane loses her job (while her coworker keeps his, hmph)--and she has to undergo 6 months of home confinement. One day the doorman mentions to her that there is someone else in the building on home confinement--Perry. She bakes a batch of brownies and heads over to introduce herself. And despite the unorthodox beginning, they strike up a friendship. Then one day, the cops show up and tell Jane the old lady across the street has died and she is a suspect--despite being stuck in the house. It's all pretty entertaining.
