 This is a book that makes you appreciate having control over your own life. Angel, Cora, Donita, and Flor are Filipinas working as maids in Singapore. Angel is working for an elderly man who had a stroke and his grown children. Cora is working for a widow with health issues. Donita is working for a shrill harridan who browbeats her husband and whose son is no longer part of her life. 

The book describes the trials and tribulations the women face in their daily lives. Then Flor gets arrested for killing the wife of the wealthy couple she is working for. The other women, particularly Donita, are determined to prove she was not the killer. Along the way, they all gain more personal power.

I was really drawn into the stories of these women and found them very inspirational.
