Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin

 "Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow, Creeps in this petty pace from day to day, To the last syllable of recorded time; And all our yesterdays have lighted fools The way to dusty death. Out, out, brief candle!"

That is taken from Macbeth and is spoken in a poignant moment by Marx, one of the characters in this popular tome by Gabrielle Zevin. The story revolves around Sam and Sadie, who meet as children in a hospital. She is there because her sister has cancer. He has been in a devastating car accident that cost him a family member and his foot. The 2 bond over video games and become lifelong friends, though with periods of estrangement. They eventually start a video game company with Sam's college roommate, Marx, a guy to whom everything seems to come easily but who has an inherent kindness and appreciation for the little things in life. We watch their company--and their relationships--evolve over the years.

It's an interesting story. My only quibble is that a LOT of pages are devoted to what's going on in their video games. I get that the author was using the video games to advance Sam and Sadie's relationship but toward the end there is a very long section devoted to Sam's latest video game that seemed to go on forever. Still, definitely a book worth reading.
