Hello Beautiful by Ann Napolitano

Beautiful is the story of the close-knit Padevano family in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago. William Waters, who did not grow up in a loving family, is embraced by the Padevano sisters when he marries Julia. She is a woman with a plan. William will become a history professor and get his PhD, then they will have an idyllic life.  William goes along with this plan but he doesn't really want to be a history professor and he's not sure he wants to be a father when Julia says they should have a baby. And he soon starts sinking into a depression that his wife is unaware of. But her sister Sylvie can see that something is wrong. And when William tells Julia he's leaving then disappears, Sylvie is the one who calls his best friend and spends the night looking for him. Soon the  family is experiencing fissures--some of which last for decades.

It's an interesting story about family bonds. But truthfully I liked this author's earlier book, Dear Edward, better.
