Small Mercies by Dennis Lehane

Small Mercies is set in the Southie neighborhood of Boston during the summer of 1974, as court-ordered school busing is about to begin. Mary Pat Fennessy is a divorced nursing home worker who has lost a son to drugs and now her beloved teenage daughter, Jules, has vanished. She is on a mission to find out what happened to her daughter, even if rattles the powerful mob boss, Marty Butler, who rules the neighborhood. But upsetting the powers that be can't end well--or can it?

Dennis Lehane is such a talented writer that you really feel like you are living in this volatile neighborhood during this hot summer when unwanted change is about to happen. And you so hope that Mary Pat finds the resolution she is looking for.
