The Writing Class by Jincy Willett

Amy Gallup got her first book published in her 20s. But then nothing else. She's now older and doing editing and teaching fiction-writing classes to make ends meet. And she's become kind of a hermit, with only the company of her basset hound, Alphonse.

When her new writing class starts up, strange things start happening. Weird phone calls and notes. Then someone in the class dies. She's convinced that a member of her class is behind all these increasingly scary goings-on but she can't figure out who.

Parts of this book are very funny as the members of the class critique each other's often awful writing. But there is a good mystery going on too. If you're looking for something a little different this summer, give this one a whirl.
