Lies and Weddings by Kevin Kwan

If you're just looking for a breezy summer read, pick up the newest book by the author of Crazy Rich Asians--Lies and Weddings. It's set in England, Hawaii, and Venice, among other exotic locales. Thomas and his daughter Eden are physicians, living in a cottage on the estate of Francis Gresham, an old chum of Thomas's from school days. Francis is married to Arabella, who is a handful and loves to live "over the top," which is putting a big strain on the family finances. Their son Rufus has been in love with Eden since they were kids, but Eden isn't good enough for Arabella, who wants her son to marry a princess. Much angst ensues.

There are many weddings in this book--the most memorable being the one in Hawaii that runs up against some molten lava.  There are also lots of secrets and dalliances, and it's all good fun--especially the copious wry footnotes in every chapter. Good summer read.
