Summer Romance by Annabel Monaghan

Ali is grieving the loss of her beloved mother and barely making it from day to day. On the first anniversary of her mother's death, Ali's husband, Pete, announces that he wants a divorce and is leaving. She is dealing with a house and 3 kids (that she realizes Pete never contributed much help with) as well as worries about making more money when she just has a part-time job. One day, she takes her dog to the dog park, where said dog promptly pees on the shoe of a handsome man also walking his dog. Ali is mortified but he is a good sport. When he starts kind of flirting with her, she feels her old self starting to come back. She eventually figures out that mystery man is her best friend Frannie's younger brother, formerly known as always-in-trouble Scooter, but now successful lawyer Ethan. Ali has hopes for something to develop between the two of them, but realizes it can only be a Summer Romance because Ethan lives in another town, several hours away. But the two become closer and closer and both worry that their hearts will be broken when summer is over.

It's a good story with likeable characters, perfect for these muggy days in August. I especially loved the divorce mediation scenes where Ethan serves as Ali's legal advisor, much to Pete's dismay.  It never occurred to Pete that Ali would stand up for herself (and their kids) or find happiness with another man.
