Traitor's Gate by Jeffrey Archer

This is the newest entry in the William  Warwick (Scotland Yard) series. An old nemesis called Miles Faulkner is out to get Warwick, his coworker Ross Hogan, and their boss for old slights. Faulker comes up with an intricate plan involving stealing some of the crown jewels to make Scotland Yard look incompetent and get the 3 policemen fired.  And it's a race against the clock to pull off the caper then for the police to solve it. Quite the page-turner.
