Mona's Eyes by Thomas Schlesser

Mona is a young girl in Paris who one day suddenly loses her eyesight for several minutes. Her mother takes her to an eye specialist who can't find anything physically wrong, so suggests that she see a psychiatrist. Mona's grandfather says he will take her to her appointments each week. Instead, he takes her to art museums where each week they focus on one work of art--so that she will have beautiful memories if she does permanently lsoe her eyesight. But his lectures about art and the artists who create it also teach Mona about life.

I wish the author had included pictures of the artworks being discussed, though that might have been prohibitively expensive to do. And at times, it feels like you're sitting in an art history class. But I loved the relationship between Mona and her beloved grandfather. And I did learn a lot about art along the way.
