Two good summer reads

The new Janet Evanovich, Sizzlin' Sixteen, is not her funniest. But she has put more effort into the plot than in some recent outings, so it was an enjoyable read. If you haven't checked out this numberically ordered series, start with 3 or 4. In the first couple, the pacing was a little slow.

If you're more into action and adventure, the new Steve Martini, Rule Of Nine, will fill the bill. This series, featuring lawyer Paul Madriani, started out as with traditional courtroom-based stories but has now, rather improbably, turned into an action/adventure series. The action never stops, so you can't put it down. And Paul is still a sympathetic character, so you're rooting for him to beat the bad guys. But I do kind of wish his life would settle down and he would get back to the courtroom.
