Cobra by Frederick Forsyth

The Cobra has an intriguing premise: The President of the US hires an ex-CIA guy (The Cobra) to come up with a plan to destroy the wildly profitable cocaine industry. The first half of the book is a little slow as Forsyth spends too much time talking about the technical details of the plan but the second half zooms right along. And lest you wonder why no one puts into place such a plan in real life, the ending shows what would happen once that ball got rolling. The Cobra's right-hand man, Cal Dexter, is fleshed out much better than the Cobra himself--and indeed, comes off as a much better person. An engaging read.
