Damage by John Lescroart

I'm a long-time fan of John Lescroart. I love his San Francisco-based stories which sometimes feature homicide cop Abe Glitsky (as Damage does) and sometimes feature his best friend, attorney Dismas Hardy.

In Damage, the son of a rich and powerful newspaper owner has just been released from prison when a new trial is granted. His crime was the rape and murder of the family's Guatemalan maid--who was not his only victim. While he's out on bail, one of the main witnesses from the original trial is brutally murdered. Then the wife of the jury foreman is found dead under suspiciously similar circumstances. The cops and the DA's office are doing their best to have the man's bail revoked while his powerful father is doing is best to discredit the police and the district attorney.

While I figured out the solution to one of the murders fairly early on, there was a good twist near the end. And all in all, Damage is quite the page-turner.
