Hollywood Hills by Joseph Wambaugh

It features an endearing cast of cops and the colorful characters they have to deal with every day. The main plot line features 2 kids on drugs, a wealthy widow, and a planned art heist that goes seriously awry. But there are several other story lines, both funny and sad, as the hardworking cops of the Hollywood Station go about their day, never knowing just what they'll come across next.
