Movie review: Rabbit Hole

Happily married Becca and Howie (Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart, both excellent) suffer a devastating loss when their young son chases the family dog into the street and gets killed by a car. The Rabbit Hole is about how they deal with that loss. Though it's a sad subject, the movie itself isn't particularly sad. Memorable performances are given by Dianne Wiest as Becca's mother and Sandra Oh as a member of the couple's grief therapy group. Also very good was the actor who played the teenage boy who drove the car that killed young Danny. He can see that his life will never be the same and it's heartbreaking when he says to Becca, "I wish I had gone down another block that day."
And yet, he seems to be the catalyst that starts her on the road to recovery.
