A Lonely Death by Charles Todd

I like this series, featuring World War I survivor/Scotland Yard detective, Ian.
But this was not my favorite book in the series. For one reason, there were too many convenient coincidences that led to the resolution of the mystery. And for another, the character of Hamish was almost absent. For those who are unfamiliar with this series, Hamish is sort of a haunting presence in Ian's life, as Ian was responsible for his death during the war. In most of the other books, Hamish seems so real that I often forget that he's all in Ian's mind. But in this one, he barely made an appearance. Perhaps the authors (Charles Todd is a mother/son writing team) are trying to imply that Ian is finally starting to move on with his life, which would be good for him but not for the readers. It will be interesting to see where the next book in this series goes.
