Movie review: Dark Shadows

In a nutshell, I liked Dark Shadows but didn't love it. I thought everyone in it was good--particularly Johnny Depp and Michelle Pfeiffer--though Eva Green's "Angelique" was a little over the top for me. But Tim Burton et al couldn't seem to decide whether they were making a comedy or a gothic horror film. And it was a little jarring to bounce from 18th-century Barnabas humorously dealing with the idiosyncrasies of the 1970s to watching Roger Collins abandon his fragile son for money. So I'd say it's worth seeing for the acting, the sets, and the special effects, especially if you were a fan of the old TV series--but it's not worth a full-price ticket.
