Bitter Frost by Bryan Gruley

It's been a while since Bryan Gruley had a new book published so I was excited to hear that Bitter Frost was on the way. And I was not disappointed. Set in northern Michigan, Bitter Frost tells the story of  ex-hockey player/now Zamboni driver Jimmy Baker, who is arrested for the murder of a Detroiter who was in town for somewhat mruky reasons. The problem is that Jimmy has no memory of what happened the night the man was murdered so can't prove his own innocence. Lucky for him his friend Devyn Payne agrees to be his lawyer. And she is a feisty one who will not give up until she has ensured Jimmy's freedom.

For such a sleepy little town, there's a lot going on in Bitterfrost, Michigan. Rival families, the criminal element from Detroit, duplicitous relatives, two other dead bodies in Mackinaw City that may be related--and a cop who is more concerned with finding the truth than helping the DA win her case in court. I stayed up way too late last night to see how it ended. And I hope it's the beginning of a new series.
