The Burning by Jane Casey

The Burning is the second in the series of "Maeve Kerrigan" novels by author Jane Casey (see earlier posting on The Reckoning). A serial killer is running around London killing young women and setting their bodies on fire. When beautiful Rebecca Haworth is found in the same state, the police at first think she's the killer's next victim. But the more she learns about Rebecca, the less detective Maeve Kerrigan is convinced that it's the work of the same person. I like this series. The character of Maeve is feisty and doggedly determined. In addition to putting up with dead bodies and autopsies, she has to contend with anti-women and anti-Irish comments from many of her coworkers, along with a mother and a boyfriend who both wish she had chosen a different career. But she refuses to give up until she finds out what really happened to Rebecca, almost getting herself killed in the process. I look forward to the next novel in this series.
