The Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty

While digging around in the attic for something for her daughter, Cecilia Fitzpatrick finds a letter her husband had written "to be opened on the event of my death." Since he's not dead, and she's a good wife, she does not open the letter. But his response when she tells him she found the letter makes her really curious, so she eventually opens the letter--then really wishes she hadn't.

The Husband's Secret is all about secrets and taking responsibility. And there's a constant presence of "what ifs." What if Rachel had been on time to pick her daughter up after school for a doctor's appointment?
What if Tess had paid more attention to the dynamic between her husband Will and suddenly skinny cousin Felicity? What if Janie had broken up with her boyfriend over the phone?

There are a lot of characters to keep track of, but the stories all tie together in the end. And it's fascinating to see how the various characters react to tragedy and the truth. I look forward to reading some of the other works written by this talented Australian writer.
