Shine Shine Shine by Lydia Netzer

This is a very unusual book. Maxon is a genius who lives in his own little world. Sunny (his wife) was born bald (in Burma) and stayed that way. She is always trying to find ways for them to fit in because she, more than Maxon, recognizes just how different they are from everyone else.

When the story starts, Maxon is heading off into space to establish a robot colony on the moon. Sunny is left behind on earth with their autistic son, a dying mother and a rapidly advancing pregnancy.

Lydia Netzer is a beautiful writer and these are memorable characters. I didn't love the book because I couldn't quite figure out where she was going with it. But I do admire her creativity and her way with words.
