Movie review: HER

People already get so into texting that they walk into potholes and fall into fountains. So is it really a stretch of the imagination to think of people falling in love with their computer operating system? That is the premise of the very creative new Spike Jonze movie Her. Joachin Phoenix is perfectly cast as Theodore, a reluctantly almost divorced writer whose job is to create "personal" letters for total strangers. He's slogging through his days under a  dark cloud since losing his wife until one day he hears about a new computer operating system with artificial intelligence. He installs it then soon becomes enamored of "Samantha" (voiced by Scarlett Johansson)--and the feeling is mutual. The results are thought provoking.
