Factory Man by Beth Macy

Factory Man is the story of Virginia-based Bassett Furniture and John Bassett III--who stood up to the Chinese furniture factories that were taking over the American furniture-making industry.
It's kind of a convoluted book. A lot of it is devoted to the Bassett family over the years--and I found it difficult to keep all the players straight. But the parts about JBIII fighting against unfair trade practices--and the stories of the American furniture workers who found themselves out of jobs and out of luck--really make you think about where the things you buy come from.
