The Promise of a Pencil by Adam Braun

Twenty-something Adam Braun had a successful financial career in NYC but wanted more. He decided to start a nonprofit to set up schools in poor areas around the world. And through a lot of hard work--and some good luck (his brother worked with Justin Bieber, who became a big supporter)--he managed to see his dreams come true.

The story is inspirational, but AB is not the world's best writer. He tends to provide a lot of "lessons learned" along the way. Still, it really is heartwarming to see how much impact one motivated person can have.

The name of the organization came from an experience Braun had while traveling. He was asking children around the world what they would want if they could have anything and one very poor child said all he wanted was a pencil (i.e., an education).
