China Rich Girlfriend by Kevin Kwan
China Rich Girlfriend is the sequel to the equally entertaining Crazy Rich Asians.
Picture the old TV show Dynasty but set in Singapore and Hong Kong and populated by Asians who think nothing of having guests over to look at their jewels or hopping on a private jet (the size of a 747, no less) for a quick shopping trip to Paris.
Our hero (Nick Young) and heroine (his lovely American Born Chinese--ABC) wife Rachel live and work in NYC. But they head off to Asia when Nick's mother (who is wildly opposed to the wedding) finds Rachel's long-lost father. Madcap adventures ensue. And the whole thing is told in a very tongue-in-cheek style. Don't skip the footnotes, which are frequently hilarious.
(If you haven't read the first book, do start there. It's a hoot.)
