Less than a Treason by Dana Stabenow

It seems like it's been a while since we've checked in with feisty Alaskan PI Kate Shugak. So I was glad when my copy of the newest book finally showed up at the library.

Treason starts with a bang--literally--as both Kate and her trusty co-pilot, half dog/half wolf Mutt, are shot. Kate's boyfriend, Jim, rushes her to the hospital, but Mutt disappears. Then Kate disappears from the hospital. When Kate comes back, a geologist vanishes then his wife ends up dead. And Kate is quickly back to work trying to unravel the mysteries.

I like this series because Kate is such a feisty, independent chick--and because the reader learns a lot about Alaska in the process. So it's always a good story and educational too. If you're new to this fine series, start at the beginning with A Cold Day for Murder.
