Proof of Life by JA Jance
I love the JP Beaumont series by JA Jance, but it doesn't seem to be a priority for JA. So I was delighted to see that there was finally a new JP book out. And it did not disappoint.
JP (Beau) is now a retired cop and kind of at loose ends. His younger wife Mel is still working, as chief of police in Bellingham, WA, so she has a very hectic schedule.Soon after Beau and Mel run into Beau's sometime nemesis, reporter Maxwell Cole, Cole turns up dead and his goddaughter asks Beau to look into it because Max had told her that if anything happened to him, Beau should investigate. Soon there are more deaths, which Beau is convinced are tied to Max's death but trying to get enough evidence to convince the Powers That Be leads Beau into dangerous waters. Read the whole book over a weekend and I hope there are more adventures of Beau and Mel on the way.
