Just Like You by Nick Hornby

Lucy is an almost-divorced single mom and teacher bouncing along in life and doing the best she can. She meets 22-year-old Joseph at one of his part-time jobs at a butcher shop, then he starts babysitting her boys. And she and Joseph become friends. Then something more.  Which causes all kinds of problems because not only is Joseph 20 years younger than she is, but Lucy is white and Joseph is black. This causes a few bumps in the road (as in Joseph's mother--who is the same age as Lucy--is not a fan, and when word gets out at her school, Lucy becomes the talk of the student body and faculty). But Lucy and Joseph really like being together, in spite of everything. And you really are hoping this quirky twosome manages to make things work.

As in About a Boy, there are some very funny scenes. One of my favorites was when Joseph gets Lucy tickets to a Shakespeare play for her birthday. If you're looking for a sweet, unconventional love story during these trying pandemic days, I recommend Just Like You.
