Choppy Water by Stuart Wood

This was one of the better Stone Barrington books in a while because it actually had a plot--though it ended very abruptly. Holly Barker, Stone's friend and sometime lover, has been elected President of the US but hasn't yet taken office. And someone is trying very hard to make sure that she never does.

Most of the book is a cat and mouse game as the bad guys keep trying to kill Holly but keep getting outsmarted--and out lucked--by the good guys. One weak spot: We never really did get a good motivation for why someone was trying to knock off Holly.

But I was happy to see a plot--and to  see Stone (atypically) being faithful to one woman for a whole book. I hope that continues. There's a preview of the next book at the end of this one, and it starts on inauguration day.
