The Coldest Case by Martin Walker

This is the latest in the always charming Bruno Chief of Police series. In the newest installment, Bruno gets an idea for a way his friend JJ can solve a 30-year old murder case, which sets off a chain of unexpected events. At the same time, wildfires are closing in on St Denis and Bruno comes up with some innovative ways to fight them. He also reconnects with his cousin Alain, who is thinking of moving to the area. And he's trying to figure out what to do with his dog Balzac's (as it turns out very valuable) puppies. Of course, there is always a lot of food, wine, and camaraderie in Bruno's world--and his off-and-on relationship with his beloved Isabelle is always in the background. Though, since there is no future with the Paris-based Isabelle, I was heartened to see a little spark (no pun intended) between Bruno and a lady mayor he met while fighting the wildfires.
