A Punishing Breed by DC Frost

Will Bloom is hired by small Hespiria College to raise funds, even though he  is a legendary womanizer, who soon works his way through several women on staff. But one night, fate catches up to Will and he is stabbed to death with the samuri sword in his office. Snarky detective DJ Arias and his downtrodden partner Talbott are assigned to the case. They discover that the same night, a female student was attacked as she was heading back to her dorm--and was saved by a man who looked like a monster. Are the two events related? Arias keeps plodding along, and soon realizes that many of the people he has been interviewing have been lying to him but he eventually start piecing together the truth.

It's an interesting character study and a good murder mystery.
