Death at the Sign of the Rook by Kate Atkinson

Sign of the Rook is the latest in the Jackson Brodie series by Kate Atkinson. It reminded me alot of Left Early Took My Dog, which also had a bunch of plots going on that all got tied together at the end.

Private investigator Jackson Brodie gets hired by a brother and sister, the Patchetts, to find a painting that belonged to their late mother. They are convinced her caregiver took it. Brodie is convinced that the two Patchetts are up to something. He learns about another painting stolen from a large estate by a lady's companion. Jackson wonders if the caregiver and the companion might not be one and the same. He joins forces with cop Reggie (Regina), with whom he has worked in the past. Jackson drives her crazy, but when her car gets stuck in a snowbank, he's the one she calls. During said massive snowstorm, the two of them stumble into a murder mystery event being held at the manor from which the second painting was stolen. Throw into the mix a soldier with PTSD who loves bees, an escaped axe murderer, and a vicar who has lost his voice and you have a rollicking good time in the hands of Kate Atkinson.
