A Way With Words

The new James Lee Burke, The Glass Rainbow, is the next chapter in the saga of lawman Dave Robicheaux and his best friend Clete. The story is convoluted as usual and this one ends on more of a down note than most. But what I love about these books is the friendship between Dave and Clete, who are always have each other's back, and the way Burke writes. His descriptions of life on the bayou are so vivid that you can feel the sweat trickling down your neck. If real life in Louisiana is anywhere near as violent as depicted in these books, it's not a place I'd want to live. But it's definitely a place I like to "visit."
