Hypothermia by Arnaldur Indridason

For those of you who loved the Dragon Tattoo books and want to explore other Scandinavian writers, check out Hypothermia by Icelandic writer Arnaldur Indridason.
It's the latest in a series (about a cop in Iceland)of which I had not read the earlier books--but that did not pose a problem. Enough background on the main character, Erlendur, is provided so you can figure out what's going on with him. And the cases he's trying to solve are interesting.

I thought the author carried through his "cold" (ie, hypothermia) theme very well.
Cold weather, cold lakes, cold cases, cold shoulders. I liked Erlendur, a cop who just refuses to give up, no matter how long the case has been unsolved. In the end, his persistence pays off.

  1. Just finished The Draining Lake by the same author. I didn't like it as much as Hypothermia. The plot seemed to be needlessly complicated, though everything was sorted out by the end.
I do however still like the main character who, despite his messy personal life, doggedly pursues clues for the murders he's asked to solve--in this case, a body that turns up when a lake begins to drain away due to an earthquake.
