Still Midnight by Denise Mina
I have read other books by Denise Mina and liked them. She writes crime novels set in Glasgow and you're usually pulled right into the story from the first page.
Still Midnight started out okay--with a bungled kidnapping and accidental shooting. Then it devolved into a big mess. I didn't mind the parts with the lady cop who was trying to solve the case while fighting sexism in the police department. But the parts with the inept criminals just dragged. I finally gave up halfway through and read the last couple of chapters to see if they ever retrieved the kidnap victim--then took the book back to the library. If you want to check out Denise Mina--and she does know how to tell a good story--I recommend her earlier novels.
